Jessica Brotsch Volunteer Coordinator
If you told me 5 or 10 years ago that I would be a triathlete, I would have laughed. It would have never been an original thought or goal of mine but when you meet great people in the sport you just get hooked and then those great people become your family. I would never be where I am today, in the sport or in life, without them. Now, I can’t imagine a life without triathlons.
I was a 5k runner, that’s all I thought I had time for. But, my good friend Jessica Gallmon needed a sub for a teammate for the Sehgahunda Marathon. I needed to run 9 miles. I found a training plan and with the encouragement of my family and friends, I completed my miles for the team. Jess also convinced me to do the Sodus Point Sprint Triathlon with her. I never swam in open water, but I enjoyed swimming, I love biking, and I new I could handle the run, so I was in. During training for Sodus Point there was talk of signing up for Lake Placid Ironman 70.3. After completing Sodus Point, Bert, David, and my family were waiting for me at the finish line and I was proud of myself for finishing. Right then and there I said I’d sign up for Lake Placid (but still had some time before registration even opened). I thought about backing out on my decision, but I’m so glad I didn’t.
Training for Lake Placid was a true test of my abilities. Time management, strength, endurance but I finished it, in under my goal time. My parents, family and Wolfpack all there to watch me cross the finish line. It was AMAZING.
I have been training with the Wolfpack since that day I told Jessica I would be part of her Sehgahunda team. Together we’ve conquered many training sessions and races, and together we are going to make the Silver Serpent Triathlon one you will remember.
