Bert Gallmon Race Director
My story is very similar to the story of the race itself. I am an athlete just like all of you, in fact I have three half Ironman distance races in 2018, plus a Ragnar and a few shorter races throughout the year. I know what you are going through and wanted to create a course and race that focuses on the athlete. There are a lot of things that make a race a great experience and I want to bring that to the Silver Serpent Triathlon.
With all of that said, I train all over the area surrounding Silver Lake, and as I was training, I always thought it would be a great place to hold an event. I started asking around to see if there ever was a race in the area, and there was a race that happened almost 10 years ago. I immediately thought it was about time for the race to come back to the area, and so began the building of the Silver Serpent Triathlon.
As I started building the team, I made sure to include athletes as well, as I felt they bring a special kind of view point to the event, because they are athletes themselves so the focus will always be on what is best for the athletes.
I have swam in the water and there almost is no better lake than Silver Lake with its mostly calm feel. I have ridden all over the area and love the challenge it offers with each ride, and that was a focus when we designed the course. Not to mention the great views of the water and the rolling hills that surround the area. Lastly the run which provides a great way to finish the race and highlight the area and the lake itself.
I grew up on this lake with my best friend owning a cottage on the lake. A few years ago my family purchased a cottage on the lake as well, and I hope that the athletes enjoy the area and the race as much as I had in the planning of the race.
